I follow the evolution of religious art in Europe during the Middle Ages, focusing on manuscript illuminations, relief sculpture, architecture, tapestries, and painting. Then I explore the rebirth of classical art during the Renaissance and the art traditions that grew out of this rebirth: Mannerism, Baroque, and Rococo.

Balance Each part of a painting or relief has visual weight. The artist carefully distributes this weight to balance the work of art.
